Origin of Carter Mountain Brass Band

The idea for Carter Mountain Brass Band was conceived by a small group of brass players one evening back in 1998 while sitting around the kitchen table at one of the player’s homes on Carter Mountain in New Hampton, NH. They felt that after concluding the season with the Gilford Community Band (a summertime band for both woodwinds and brass), there was a dearth of playing opportunities for brass players for the rest of the year in the Lakes Region. Hence, the "Winter Brass" was born.

As interest among local brass in the band grew over the next two years, the performing season was extended to year round and the name changed to Carter Mountain Brass Band. We now get together for rehearsals twice a month and perform eight or nine concerts a year. Most of our members are not professional musicians; rather they come from diverse backgrounds of business, education, science, industry, etc. We have exceptional students at one end of the age spectrum and retirees at the other. The one thing we all share is our love of perfecting and performing good music.
